Often the strict budgetary and spatial parameters involved in smaller projects stimulate innovative design solutions. Sacco and Royale stores are good examples. A simple and careful use of materials produced low-tech and versatile systems for displaying merchandise. The store-planning projects for Sacco focused on redesigning the “found” retail spaces so that the modern image of this shoe company would keep pace with the character of its shoes. The versatility and endless design possibilities of “nomadic” installation and display units were employed to achieve “mobile” podiums, seating, and fixturing systems. Flexibility became the fundamental organizing instrument that governed the design of an environment where form and function blend harmoniously. This strategy allows effortless transitions to take place among seasonal merchandise lines
