This medium-size apartment for Dlutowski and Occolowitz is located one floor above Apartment 11 at the same address.
The project involves a series of planes that slip into wall surfaces and forms a pink translucent layer. This occurs at the bathroom and at the bedroom doors. A slot in the bathroom door had a special film applied that allows for clear vision on angles but no image when looking straight ahead. This voyeuristic door element was also explored in the treatment of the shower stall and the pivoting, faceted mirrors in the bathroom. The bathroom has a custom-poured epoxy sink, lighted from the floor, that slips into the mirrored wall. The surfaces of the hidden storage in the living room appear as floating white planes, each ot them having a different directional and surface angle, and leading to an aleatoric compositional effect. This surface treatment was elaborated in Atlas with mirrored panels. The sliding doors in the living room lead to the bedrooms and bathroom. The all-white kitchen contrasts with the all-black one in Apartment 11. The lighting throughout the apartment washes the wall surfaces that have either moving elements below, such as cabinet doors, and/or faceted surfaces that allow shadows to participate in emphasizing the quality of the surface finishes.
